State Department Encourages UK to Designate Iran’s Military Force as a Terrorist Group

The State Department has stated that it will support the United Kingdom’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps( IRGC ) as a terrorist organization, the most recent indication that the Biden administration is giving up on reviving the Iran nuclear agreement.

According to a State Department official, the presidency was pressuring the U. K. to reject the title.” We encourage our allies and partners to use any essential tools to stress the IRGC ,” he said to the Washington Free Beacon. ” What names are acceptable under their available legal regime and in their best interests is up to each country or union of countries.”

The State Department’s remarks follow a Telegraph article that was released on Wednesday and claimed that President” Joe Biden and his diplomats are pressuring the U. K. Government neither to formally declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to be terrorist groups.”

According to reports, the United States’ wish to see the UK serve as a mediator with Iran is what is causing the uncertainty in the situation. This diplomatic track would likely become irritated if the IRGC — Tehran’s paramilitary force that killed a large number of Americans — were named, preventing the Biden administration from continuing the 2015 nuclear agreement revision negotiations.

The State Department denies interfering in British foreign policy, and a spokesman assured the Free Beacon that the US would never think twice about imposing harsh sanctions on the IRGC.

The official stated that” The Biden administration’s posture on the IRGC is sharp.” It is” possibly more subject to U.S. punishment than any other object on the planet.” In connection with extremism and human rights violations, we have already routinely sanctioned numerous IRGC leaders directly.

Additionally, the State Department praised” the U. K. ‘ s recent sanctions against a number of IRGC officials for repression against the Iranian people.”

In light of an Egyptian strike in Syria on Thursday that killed one American company and injured six people, including five American support members, the comments seem to indicate that the Biden administration wants to avoid a common political conflict with one of its closest allies.

The U. K. has been divided over an IRGC title for decades, making it one of the first major European countries to implement that plan.

The European Union has stalled in its decision to accept the European Parliament’s suggestion that it define the IRGC as a global terrorist organization. According to the Washington Free Beacon, this prompted 12 Democratic senators to put pressure on the European Union earlier this year.

Twelve Republican senators, led by Sen. James Risch ( R., Idaho ), a ranking senator on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, wrote to Josep Borrell, the European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, on Wednesday, stating that” the IRGC clearly presents to the E. U. and our collective security.” Before the next disaster strikes, it is well past time to stop using its resources.

In 2019, the IRGC was designated as a threat organization by the US.

The Foreign Office and Home Office, two public agencies in the United Kingdom, are reportedly at variance over the IRGC’s a as a terrorist organization. The Foreign Office opposes the decision, while the Home Office supports it, likely to prevent tense ties with Tehran. However, it is thought that Iran was responsible for at least 10 separate kidnapping and murder attempts against American citizens, which is encouraging American supporters of a terror designation.

The English opponents of an IRGC designation are attempting to keep” an already dead” Iran nuclear deal, according to Richard Goldberg, former chairman for countering Egyptian weapons of mass destruction at the White House National Security Council.

According to Goldberg, a senior adviser to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies say tank,” the Foreign Office is running around claiming the Americans don’t believe we should do this, but the State Department is disputing that with case left and right.” ” Prime Minister Sunak should be able to tell when he is being duped by the ingrained, pro-Tehran government that would rather keep an already dying Iran nuclear deal than protect American residents from IRGC threats.”

Additionally, Democratic politicians have put pressure on Britain to advance decisively.

Rep. Claudia Tenney( R., N.) says,” I join my parliamentary acquaintances in pleading with the U. K. to join the United States in declaring the IRGC to be a terrorist business.” Y. ) twitted on Thursday. The IRGC” continues to terrify Egyptian rebels all over the world and destroy the Middle East.”

Sen. Tom Cotton( R, Arkansas ) The Biden administration should encourage our friends in the U. K. to label Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps what it is— a terrorist entity ,” according to a call from the Senate Armed Services Committee that was made on Twitter.
