AOC and Bowman demand Santos’ resignation as he speaks outside Capitol.

NY Representatives Shout at GOP Colleague After Narrowly Avoiding Expulsion

What Happened?

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, both members of the “Squad,” shouted at Rep. George Santos on the steps of the Capitol after he narrowly avoided expulsion from the House. Santos was being interviewed by reporters when Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman started shouting at him to resign.

What Was Said?

Bowman boomed, “Get him out. He gotta go,” while Ocasio-Cortez yelled, “Resign, bro.” Bowman also told Santos to “have some dignity” and “save yourself” by resigning. After the vote, Bowman had a heated exchange with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has supported Santos throughout his many scandals.

What’s Happening in Congress?

Republicans and Democrats have been clashing over gun violence, mass shootings, and illegal immigration at the southern border. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are negotiating over raising the debt ceiling. Biden tweeted that congressional leaders had a “productive meeting” on Tuesday and that he’s confident they’ll reach an agreement on the budget.

What’s Next?

The House voted 221-204 to refer the matter of Santos’s expulsion to the Ethics Committee for a thorough investigation. As for the debt ceiling negotiations, both parties are working to avoid defaulting on America’s bills.

  • Bowman asked Greene and Republicans to drop the “debt ceiling nonsense.”
  • Greene started chanting, “Impeach Biden,” but she did not get anyone to join her.
  • Bowman asked Greene to do something about gun control, and she responded, “Close the border. Save the children.”
