Special Counsel Weiss to indict Hunter Biden, per filing.

Special Counsel: Hunter ‍Biden to be Indicted This ⁢Month

In a new court filing this week, Special Counsel David Weiss announced that Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, will face‍ indictment in the coming weeks. Weiss stated, ⁤”The Speedy Trial ‍Act requires that the Government obtain the ⁣return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the ‌earliest. The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date.”

While the specific charges were not disclosed in the court filing,‍ CNN reported that they are gun-related offenses. It is possible that additional charges related⁣ to Hunter Biden’s taxes or foreign business dealings, which have been ⁢under investigation, may be included or ⁤brought forth at a later time.

Interestingly, Weiss initially expressed‍ a willingness ‌to forgo prosecution of Hunter Biden and was close to ending the investigation without requiring a ‍guilty plea. However, his stance changed‌ when two IRS agents came forward as whistleblowers, alleging that they faced obstacles in⁤ advancing the probe due to pressure from higher-ups ⁣at the Department of Justice.

Following the ⁢whistleblowers’ revelations, Weiss ‍demanded that Hunter Biden ‍plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax ⁤crimes and enter a deferred‍ prosecution‍ agreement for a ‌gun charge.

Chris Clark, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, issued a warning to prosecutors investigating his⁤ client. He ⁢threatened that if⁢ charges ⁢were filed, the defense would call President Joe Biden to⁢ testify, potentially creating ⁣a constitutional crisis by pitting the president against his own Department⁣ of Justice, as‌ reported by POLITICO.

“President Biden now unquestionably would be ⁢a⁤ fact witness for ⁢the defense in any criminal trial,” ⁣Clark stated in a detailed letter to ⁣prosecutors. He further emphasized, “This of all cases justifies neither⁤ the ‌spectacle of a sitting President testifying at ‌a criminal trial‌ nor the potential for ‌a resulting Constitutional crisis.”
