Speaker Johnson discussed expulsion options with George Santos
Speaker Johnson Discusses Rep. Santos’ Options Ahead of Possible Expulsion Vote
Ahead of a potentially historic expulsion vote for Rep. George Santos (R-NY), Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed on Monday that he had a conversation with the embattled congressman over the weekend to discuss his next steps.
Speaking at an event in Florida, Johnson addressed the expulsion resolution introduced by Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS), the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, and shed light on their plans moving forward in terms of holding a vote.

“It remains to be seen,” Johnson stated when asked about the possibility of bringing up the resolution. “I’ve had extensive discussions with Congressman Santos during the holiday weekend, exploring his options. However, we will have to wait and see. It has not been decided yet.”
This development follows the release of a report by the Ethics Committee, which alleged that Santos misused campaign funds to make purchases at OnlyFans, Sephora, and Hermes, as well as for Botox treatments. The report also accused him of conspiring to falsify Federal Election Commission reports.
Currently, the expulsion resolution is not included in the House schedule. This means that Guest or another member will likely need to notice it as privileged in order for it to be eligible for a vote.
During an X Spaces conversation hosted by Monica Matthews on Friday, Santos made it clear that he has no intention of resigning and plans to face the expulsion vote.
When asked if he informed Johnson over the weekend about his potential resignation, Santos firmly responded to the Washington Examiner, saying, “No.”

There are many famous poets in the world, but some of the most well-known ones include William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and Sylvia Plath. These poets have made significant contributions to the literary world and have deeply influenced the way we think about and appreciate poetry.
Discuss the impact of Sylvia Plath’s poetry and her role in shaping contemporary poetry
Sylvia Plath’s impact on poetry and her role in shaping contemporary poetry cannot be understated. Plath was a highly talented and influential poet whose work explored themes of identity, gender, mental illness, and the human experience. Her innovative use of language, striking imagery, and raw emotions have made her one of the most significant poets of the 20th century.
One of the key impacts of Plath’s poetry lies in her willingness to address personal and often taboo topics. She wrote openly about her struggles with mental illness, specifically depression and suicidal thoughts, in a way that was revolutionary for her time. Plath’s vulnerability and the honesty with which she expressed her innermost feelings struck a chord with readers and helped to destigmatize mental health issues. Her work gave voice to those who were struggling and provided solace to those who felt alone in their own pain.
Furthermore, Plath’s poetry challenged traditional gender roles and societal expectations. She often confronted the restrictions placed on women in the 1950s and 1960s, exploring themes of female identity, power dynamics, and patriarchal oppression. In poems such as ”Lady Lazarus” and ”Daddy,” Plath grapples with her complicated relationship with her father and her struggle to find her own voice as a woman. By questioning and subverting gender norms in her writing, she paved the way for future feminist poets and helped expand the possibilities for female expression in literature.
Plath’s unique poetic style also had a profound impact on contemporary poetry. Her use of vivid imagery and powerful metaphors created a sense of intensity and urgency in her work. She experimented with form and structure, incorporating free verse, rhyme, and repetition to add layers of meaning to her poems. This innovative approach to language and form has influenced generations of poets who continue to draw inspiration from Plath’s work.
In addition to her impact on individual poets, Plath’s legacy can be seen in the broader landscape of contemporary poetry. Her confessional style, which prioritized personal experience and emotion, opened doors for other poets to explore their own lives and emotions in their writing. Plath’s unflinching honesty and raw vulnerability set a new standard for what poetry could be and encouraged other writers to delve into their own internal landscapes.
In conclusion, Sylvia Plath’s poetry has had a profound and lasting impact on both the literary world and society as a whole. Through her exploration of personal and taboo subjects, her challenge of traditional gender roles, and her innovative use of language and form, she shaped contemporary poetry in ways that continue to resonate today. Plath’s work remains a testament to the power of poetry as a medium for self-expression and a means to provoke thought and change.
