Social Security update: $914 direct payment arrives in 2 weeks.

Get Ready for Your Second June Payment from the Social Security Administration

Exciting news for recipients of the Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income program! In just two weeks, you’ll be receiving your second June payment, worth up to $914 for individual filers. But why the extra payment, you ask?

Well, it’s all due to a scheduling kink in the SSA’s calendar. The second payment for June will be sent out on Friday, June 30, following the initial payment sent on June 1.

Payment Variations and Eligibility

Now, let’s talk about the amount of money you’ll be receiving. The payment varies depending on your filing status. If you file individually, you’ll receive $914 every month. Eligible couples will receive $1,371, while essential persons, who provide necessary care to individuals receiving SSI payments, will get a monthly payment of $458.

It’s important to note that SSI payments are given in addition to regular Social Security benefits for retirees. The SSI program provides monthly payments to adults and children with blindness or another disability and limited income.

To qualify for SSI, you must be over 65, partially blind, or have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits your daily activities for at least 12 months or more.

Understanding the Quirk in the Schedule

Now, let’s dive into the reason behind this extra payment. Typically, recipients receive one payment each month. However, in months where the first of the following month falls on a weekend, recipients receive two checks. This is exactly what’s happening in June.

This year, July 1 falls on a Saturday, so the second payment for June is taking the place of July’s payment. Don’t worry, though! The adjusted schedule ensures that you’ll still receive 12 checks per year. In fact, there are four months this year where you’ll receive two payments: March, June, September, and December.

Since SSI payments were first issued in January 1974, payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments. The SSA is committed to providing you with the support you need.

So mark your calendars for June 30 and get ready for that extra payment. It’s time to celebrate!
