Recipients of the Supplemental Security Income Program to Receive Payments in Eight Days

Attention all recipients of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program! Get ready to receive your monthly checks, worth up to $914 for individual filers, in just eight days.

The next payment, scheduled for Friday, June 30, will be the second for the month of June. The amount you receive may vary depending on your filing status. Whether you are an individual filer, a joint filer, or an essential person, there is some variation in the payment amount.

Payment Amounts

  • Individual filers: $914 per month
  • Eligible couples: $1,371 per month
  • Essential persons: $458 per month

According to the Social Security Administration, essential persons are those who live with individuals receiving SSI payments and provide them with necessary care.

SSI payments are provided in addition to regular Social Security benefits. They offer monthly financial support to adults and children with blindness or other disabilities and limited income. To qualify for SSI, you must be over 65, totally or partially blind, or have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits your daily activities for at least 12 months or is expected to result in death.

Typically, twelve SSI payments are distributed each year. However, due to the placement of holidays and weekends, some months may receive two payments while others receive none. Fortunately, June is one of those lucky months where recipients will receive two payments.

The SSI program, established in 1974, aims to provide additional assistance to society’s most vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, blind, and disabled. It was designed to create a safety net, with state assistance programs further supplementing the income. Notably, the program shifted the responsibility of determining who receives assistance from the states to the federal government, as stated in a 2011 annual report.
