Jason ⁣Aldean’s music ⁢video for “Try ⁣That In​ A Small ⁢Town” recently underwent an unexpected edit, causing quite a stir among conservatives‍ who had⁤ rallied behind the song after it ‍was initially canceled ‍by Country Music Television.

The controversy​ began⁣ on Wednesday night when social media users noticed that the music video had been altered, removing ⁣footage ⁤of the Black Lives ⁢Matter riots from 2020. The original ‍video had included approximately six seconds of riot footage‍ from Fox 5 Atlanta, but‌ now it solely features​ Aldean singing.

Unveiling the Edit

As ⁤of Thursday afternoon, Aldean ​had not addressed the‍ edit on his social ‌media‍ platforms.⁤ However, it was reported in the morning that Fox 5 had reached out to the production company, urging them to ⁤remove the controversial footage to avoid potential legal repercussions.

Prior to ⁤this⁢ report,⁣ many social media ​users accused Aldean of succumbing to ​pressure from what they referred to as “the woke mob.”

Controversy Breeds Popularity

The discussion surrounding the ​edit ⁤gained⁢ momentum after the song was pulled‍ from CMT’s rotation on‌ July‌ 17. This removal unexpectedly propelled the⁣ song,‌ which had been released⁢ in May, to⁢ newfound popularity. The music video featured scenes of‍ a U.S. flag burning, someone holding a Molotov‌ cocktail, and individuals breaking into jewelry displays.

Since its ⁣censorship, “Try That In ⁣A Small Town”⁣ has experienced a significant surge in​ on-demand audio and video streams. According‍ to Luminate statistics, the streams skyrocketed from 987,000 to 11.7 million in the week following its removal⁤ from CMT. Additionally, the song’s‌ sales dramatically increased from a ‌mere ⁣1,000 copies⁤ per week to 228,000 copies in the week following its censorship.

Notable‌ conservatives, including ⁢Governor Kristi ⁢Noem (R-SD), ​2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and Donald Trump Jr., ⁢have also ‍voiced their support​ for Aldean‌ amidst the controversy.
