Police: Six teens assault boy playing basketball, steal shoes as bystanders record and share on social media.

15-Year-Old Boy Brutally Attacked While Playing Basketball

A shocking incident unfolded in Havertown, Pennsylvania, on Monday when a 15-year-old boy was viciously assaulted by six teenagers while playing basketball. What makes this incident even more disturbing is that a group of bystanders stood by and recorded the assault before posting it on social media.

The attack, which was captured on video by witnesses, shows the group of black teenagers targeting the 15-year-old, who is white, in an attempt to steal his Yeezy slides, a popular shoe made by Kanye West and Adidas that can cost up to $300. One suspect has already been arrested after being found in possession of the stolen shoes, but the police are still searching for the other five teens involved in the assault.

“They are punching, kicking, and beating on this kid when he’s laying on the ground,” said Haverford Township Police Deputy Chief Joseph Hagan, describing the horrifying scene.

In the video, the victim can be heard pleading with his attackers to “just take” the shoes, but the group of teens continues to chase him even after he manages to get off the ground. Eventually, the victim escapes and seeks refuge in a nearby home, where the resident immediately contacts the authorities. Sadly, the bystanders who witnessed the attack did not call 911 or attempt to help the injured boy.

“One of the kids filming it apparently put it up on social media, and we were able to get that video off of social media,” Hagan revealed, highlighting the disturbing fact that bystanders chose to record the attack rather than intervene or call for help.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 17, now face charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and other offenses. While two attackers have been identified, the police are confident they will soon identify the remaining individuals involved.

Physically, the 15-year-old victim is doing well, but his mother, too shaken up to appear on camera, expressed her gratitude for the ongoing police investigation. She also expressed her disappointment that bystanders chose to record the attack instead of immediately contacting the authorities.

A similar attack occurred nearly 10 years ago in Pennsylvania, where a white 15-year-old was beaten by a group of black teenagers while playing basketball at a Pittsburgh recreation center. The attackers allegedly targeted the teenager for his basketball shoes and recorded the assault to share online.
