Six injured in stabbing at NYC’s Penn Station, day before Trump attends Game 3 of NBA Finals

“Earlier this afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to a reported stabbing at New York Penn Station,” Amtrak said in a released statement. “The suspect has been apprehended and an investigation is underway.”
The stabbing at Penn Station came a day before Game 3 of the National Basketball Association Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, which is being played at Madison Square Garden. The famous sporting arena is located directly above the train station and is expected to have President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani in attendance. As a result, strict security measures have been implemented for the game.
Additionally, the FIFA World Cup is also scheduled to start this week and is being co-hosted by New York and New Jersey. And while no games will be played in New York City, the FIFA World Cup Fan Village is being held at Rockefeller Center, which is also close to Penn Station.

Mamdani commented on the stabbing in a post on X late Sunday night, calling the violence “horrific” and “unacceptable violence.”
“I’ve been briefed on the horrific stabbing at Penn Station,” Mamdani said. “Based on the information available right now, six people were stabbed and the alleged perpetrator is in custody following a swift response from the Amtrak Police Department.”
“My heart is with everyone who was injured, their loved ones, and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence,” Mamdani said. “I’m wishing each of the victims a full and speedy recovery.”
