‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Announces He’s ‘Separated’ From Another Wife

“Sister Wives” family patriarch Kody Brown just announced his second separation, this time from Janelle Brown.

The TLC reality star made the admission during a recently released promo for the upcoming special, “Sister Wives: One on One.” 

“I am separated from Janelle,” Kody admitted. “And I’m divorced from Christine [Brown].”

Janelle reiterated that the pair is no longer together. “Kody and I have separated,” she echoed in the clip.

The Brown family became famous due to their polygamous relationships, including Kody, 53, and his four wives. The reality show “Sister Wives” premiered on TLC in 2010.

Kody and Janelle have been together since 1993. In November 2021, Kody and his former wife, Christine, announced they were getting divorced after 25 years of marriage.

Following the split, Kody maintains relationships with Meri Brown and Robyn Brown, though People noted that his relationship with Meri has become platonic.

Fans who watch the show won’t be surprised by this recent development. Kody and Janelle have faced numerous challenges this season that they’ve been open about while cameras were rolling. Janelle said during last week’s episode that she was willing to “do everything [she] can to make this work” but was “not even sure it’s possible to come back from where we are.”

The couple was fighting over Kody’s strict COVID protocol. Meanwhile, Janelle said she was able to make her own decisions. She also admitted to being inspired in part by Christine leaving the family. 

“This is the same ol’ argument. I don’t need to be beaten into submission, made to kowtow. I’m just not. I just don’t need this,” she said. “In the last 18 months, I’ve realized that I’m pretty good. I’m independent, and I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at. I just don’t need it. I don’t deserve it and I don’t need it.”

“I just think we’ve never had divides this deep,” Janelle continued. “Christine has left, and that’s obviously [a] very, very big departure for what our family has looked like for many years. This is like the ultimate test of our family. Can we hold it together with all of this?”

Earlier in the season, Kody asked his wives to “conform to the patriarchy” while addressing Christine’s departure from the family. 

Kody has been legally married to Meri since 1990. Since polygamy is illegal, he only had a spiritual marriage with his other three wives until breaking up with Janelle and Christine.
