Sinema and Gonzales to visit Arizona border as Congress stalls on immigration reform

During the upcoming district work period, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema( I-AZ ) and Rep. Tony Gonzales( R-TX ) intend to travel to the Arizona border together, both offices have informed the Washington Examiner.

Sinema is leading a bipartisan and bicameral border event that will see the two lawmakers arrive at the U.S. – Mexico border.

The journey has not been made public by either lawgiver, and a spokesperson for Sinema’s office declined to say who else might go on it or what it might entail.

Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate for 2024, will be hosted by Gonzales on Monday in his Texas area. The largest parliamentary district on the southern border is represented by Gonzales, a second-term Navy senior.

The timing of the visit may mark a fresh effort in Congress to advance border security plans, as House Republicans have dragged their feet on the matter despite then-Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s ( R – CA ) promise last November to make resolving the border crisis their top priority in the majority.

The GOP leadership’s efforts to hasten the passage of eight border and immigration taxes to the House floor have failed, and commission markups on the policy system were postponed until overdue April.

Sinema, who left the Democratic Party in December, is regarded as a border security moderate. Sens. John Cornyn( R-Tex ), Rep. Henry Cuellar( D-TX ), Vicente Gonzalez, and Sinema have all collaborated on border solutions on a regular basis.
