Sheldon Whitehouse: Voters seek Biden, not ‘campaign noise’.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse: Voters Want Substance, Not Campaign Noise

During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) emphasized that voters are not interested in “campaign noise” from President Joe Biden. When asked about the delay in holding a campaign rally after announcing his candidacy for 2024, Whitehouse defended Biden’s approach.

Building a Strong Foundation

“No,” the senator answered. “He’s got a lot of time ahead of him, a lot of runway. I think laying a good, solid base of these strong endorsements like he got out of the environmental community last week, what he got out of the labor community at this big rally, is just the way to go. I don’t know that people are interested in a whole lot of campaign noise out of him, and I think he’s doing it right.”

Despite polls showing Biden’s approval ratings in the low 40s and a majority of voters not wanting him to run again, the president remains committed to seeking reelection. He is following a similar strategy to his successful campaigns in 2020 and 2022, which involves keeping a relatively low profile and allowing Donald Trump to dominate the spotlight.

Biden has refrained from publicly addressing Trump’s indictment and has instructed his campaign staff and the Democratic National Committee to do the same. However, campaign operatives and Biden supporters are actively advocating for his candidacy. Recently, Biden received endorsements from 17 different unions and campaigned alongside them in Philadelphia.

During the rally, Biden was met with enthusiastic chants of “four more years!” and pledged to continue supporting unions if reelected.

A Transformative Vision

“I’m looking forward to this campaign,” Biden declared in a speech that deliberately avoided mentioning Trump. “I want you to know why: because you got a story to tell. We’ve got a story to tell. We’ve got a record to run on. And most importantly, we’re not only changing this country, we’re transforming it.”

As the campaign progresses, Biden aims to focus on substantive issues and highlight his accomplishments, rather than engaging in excessive campaign rhetoric.
