Shawn Carney: The Mystery of Ash Wednesday’s Popularity

Catholics around the world will meet on Wednesday to collect ashes in a symbolic reminder of what it means to be a Christian. “for you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19). Ash Wednesday, despite not being a holy holiday of obligation, is a tradition to be one of the most significant liturgical years. Participated The attendance at Masses has been increasing in recent years. This solemn, but profound Mass, reminding us about our sins, fragility, and dependence on God, is becoming more popular than ever. Why?

Ash Wednesday would appear to be a relic of our culture’s fast dismissal of God, celebration of self, and omission of God. It is an outdated practice that doesn’t belong in our accepting, self-affirming culture.

Americans were last week at record levels Exposed An overtly demonic one Performance This is “Unholy” Kim Petras, a transgender woman, was interviewed by Sam Smith. Petras was the one who called for help, and it was as desperate as it was. spoke The Associated Press.

“I just never got a chance to know about spirituality or be accepted by God. So, to me, it’s like mythology. To me, it’s like a fairy tale or any other story.”

Petras, who had never given revealed religion a chance joined the church for progressive dogma. Petras was swayed by its covenant like many other young, confused, and irresponsible people. This included the commandment that self-harm and sacrifice in the form body mutilation will fill a void.

The desire of man to become God and change human nature to create a utopia has existed since the beginning. This has been a new phenomenon in 21st-century America. Democrats were pleased to see Roe v. Wade overturned by the Supreme Court. Flooded They insist that ending life is an inalienable right, on both the streets and the airways. They no longer hide behind the slogan of “safe, legal, and rare.” Today, they proclaim their love of and worship for abortion far and wide—and often speak in religious terms. They believe that abortion is the only sacrament that can solve all their problems.

Anne Hathaway, an actress, was one of those who did exactly that. On The View, she attested, “My own personal experience with abortion, and I don’t think we talk about this enough—abortion can be another word for ‘mercy.'” Her erroneous view of abortion is unfortunately not the truth. “mercy” This is not unusual.

The abortion industrial complex—comprised of government, Big Pharma, Planned Parenthood, and other non-profits—has marketed abortion as a compassionate alternative to motherhood. The right to decide the fate and destiny of another human being is granted to women who are not ready to become mothers.

In the Bible, mercy is defined as forgiveness and compassion, specifically carried out by the withholding of punishment. Do you believe your abortion was legal? “withholding punishment” Your child’s perspective?

Chelsea Handler, comedian took her radical ideas to the next level. Handler’s daily life is depressing. It is nothing but self-indulgence and materialistic acts for escapism, which even Handler is trying to explain to herself in this absurd video. She basks in the glory of not having children when in fact, she was a mother—a mother to two unborn children that she, in her own words, proudly aborted. We have worked with thousands of women who had an abortion. They may regret it but they aren’t proud of it. Handler is clearly angry, lonely and doesn’t care about women who have suffered the horrors of abortion. It’s clear that Handler is a comic who broadcasts this sad reality to the whole world.

Ash Wednesday’s growing global embrace stems from an innate human desire for transcending the temporal, the corporeal, and to confront who we are, aren’t, or should be. It’s a refreshing escape from a world obsessed with self, constantly changing identities and trying to get outside one’s head. Ash Wednesday is more beloved than ever because it offers a break from the self-absorbed culture. Although it may seem depressing and unaffirming, Ash Wednesday in 2023 is water in a desert.
