Senate Democrat praises Biden’s support for Hunter.
A Senate Democrat Praises President Biden for Supporting Son Facing Criminal Indictment
A Senate Democrat, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), who is also a co-chairman of President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, commended the president for standing by his son, Hunter Biden, who is facing an imminent criminal indictment. Coons dismissed any notion that this support would have political consequences for President Biden.
“I frankly admire the fact that Pres. Biden stands by his son,” Sen. Chris Coons tells @JonKarl as Hunter Biden faces legal trouble.
“But it doesn’t implicate his leadership as president and I don’t believe it will have an impact on his reelection.” https://t.co/hPpTISPgYd pic.twitter.com/xkX7Be3AHD

In an interview with MSNBC that aired in May, President Biden spoke highly of his son Hunter, despite the ongoing criminal investigation. The president expressed his belief that the inquiry would not affect his presidency, as he firmly stated that Hunter “has done nothing wrong.” President Biden also expressed his trust and faith in his son.
However, subsequent developments revealed a plea agreement involving tax evasion and gun charges that could have spared Hunter Biden from prison. This agreement, labeled a “sweetheart plea deal” by Republicans, faced scrutiny from a judge who raised concerns about an immunity clause, leading to its collapse.
Last week, the Department of Justice announced that special counsel David Weiss intends to seek an indictment against Hunter Biden on gun charges by the end of the month. Hunter Biden’s lawyer argued that a pre-trial diversion agreement remains valid and prevents additional charges from being filed.
When questioned about Hunter Biden, Sen. Coons took the opportunity to highlight that former President Donald Trump, who is vying for another term as the GOP frontrunner, is facing his own criminal indictments. Coons emphasized the stark contrast between Hunter Biden, who is not running for election, and Trump, who faces multiple legal matters and 83 counts.
Sen. Coons also affirmed that President Biden is committed to staying out of the criminal investigation into his son and that Hunter is eager to resolve the situation and move forward with his life and recovery from drug addiction.
