Sen. Ted Cruz Joins Elon Musk In Call For Increased American Oil And Gas Output

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz joined in agreement with Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s viral Twitter post that America needs to increase oil and gas output “immediately.”

Cruz took to Twitter on Saturday to support Musk’s statement, saying, “Couldn’t agree more! Unleash American energy NOW!”

Musk posted to Twitter on Friday to voice his support to increase domestic oil and gas drilling as the nation faces surging prices at the pump from the Biden administration’s policies and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,” Musk tweeted.

“Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports,” he added.

Cruz also expressed his support after he released a statement on Friday regarding his introduction of the Energy Freedom Act, an effort to make America energy independent again by “accelerating federal permitting for energy projects and pipelines, mandating new onshore and offshore oil and gas lease sales, approving pending LNG export licenses, and generally speeding up solar, wind, and geothermal development.”

“I’m introducing the Energy Freedom Act to reverse Biden’s actions so we can restore American energy independence. This bill won’t cost taxpayers a dime, but it will provide the United States billions in revenue in the coming years by expediting permitting, leasing, safe new pipelines, and exports, and providing much needed regulatory certainty. It would create new jobs, lower energy costs, and because modern energy production in the United States is far cleaner than in any other country’s by every measure, it would help the environment,” Cruz said in the statement.

“The Energy Freedom Act would put a stop to the Biden administration’s sabotage of the American energy industry, and Congress should take it up without delay,” he added.

Cruz has also advocated for the U.S. to immediately boycott Russian oil and gas in response to its invasion of Ukraine. After joining a call on Saturday with fellow senators and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Cruz called for swift support, including an immediate oil and gas embargo against Russia.

“The Ukrainian people and President Zelenskyy are showing the world what a free country looks like when fighting for its survival against totalitarian aggression, even at overwhelming odds. We have all been moved by their bravery and heroism,” Cruz said in a statement following the call on Saturday.

“It is incumbent upon the United States to ensure that our Ukrainian allies have what they need to defend themselves, and that Putin does not have resources he needs to fund his war machine,” he added.

His statement also called an oil embargo against Russia “the only economic sanction” that can strongly deter Russian President Vladimir Putin in his attacks on the people of Ukraine.

“Meanwhile, the United States should immediately implement an oil and gas embargo on Russia. If the Biden administration won’t do so on its own, Congress should mandate that they do so. As President Zelenskyy told us, boycotting Russian oil and gas would be the most potent sanction we can impose, by far, and it is also the only economic sanction that can tenably and quickly affect Russia’s ability to continue financing its aggression,” Cruz argued.

“In the coming days Congress will focus on aid to Ukraine. We should consider a standalone Ukraine military aid package to get them the assistance they need as quickly as possible. Ukraine, its people, and its leaders will not survive if we settle for half-measures and delay,” he added.
