Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin has pledged to work with Republicans on COVID-19 relief legislation. In an interview Tuesday, he said he has told his Democrat colleagues he will not proceed on legislation if it is not done in a bipartisan way.

The West Virginia senator also said Joe Biden knows his position and suggested the president is seeking to work with lawmakers across the aisle as well. Manchin went on to stress, he will not let Democrats eliminate the filibuster and noted any relief bill must have GOP input.

“I’ve told my side of the isle that we’re going to do this in a bipartisan way,” he stated. “…And I can assure you that we’re not going to bust a filibuster…we’re going to work with each other whether they like it or not.”

Manchin also said he was very encouraged after Biden’s recent meeting with a group of GOP senators over coronavirus relief.
