Sen. Manchin “Shocked” Biden Betrayed Him on Inflation, Deficit Reduction

Senator Joe Manchin states that he is surprised that President Joe Biden has disregarded the cause of deficient reduction and domestic energy. During the summer when Biden and Manchin spoke, they agreed that the Inflation Reduction Act would help pay off the national debt while improving America’s energy security. The plan was designed to create $738 billion in new revenue, with $238 billion allocated for debt reduction, and was the first serious piece of legislation expected to accomplish this in the past two decades, as per Manchin’s opinion. However, instead of implementing the law as intended, unaccountable ideologists, bureaucrats, and assignees appear to be determined to abuse and subvert the law in favor of a partisan agenda that disregards both energy and fiscal security. In ignoring the debt and deficit implications of these activities, at the same time when it is necessary to increase the debt ceiling, these esthetics amount to both bad policy decisions and political malpractice, says the senator.

It’s ironic when Manchin accuses Biden’s appointees of using partisan agendas when he endorsed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan and the $5.5 trillion Build Back Better proposal, and didn’t complain when Biden imposed strict expenses and regulatory obstacles on energy exploration and creation, says the author.

When Biden and Democrats needed a legislative win to retake Congress, Guy Benson writes, it was Senator Manchin’s vote that ensured they passed the IRA as debt and inflation control measures were ignored. Now that Manchin desires to appear unaffiliated with a profoundly unfavorable president and the even more unpopular Chuck Schumer, he spent the entire year attempting to achieve this. He wants to run again as a flinty independent rather than the Biden-Schumer enabler he was last year, says Guy Benson.
