Secret Service Brokers Were Furious Over Whitened House Downplaying First Canine Bites: Report

Secret Service agents were reportedly furious last year when White House officials downplayed the severity of bite injuries members of the protection detail suffered by the then-first dog Major, a German shepherd.

“Secret Service leaders also sought to keep attack details out of official paperwork — at one point rejecting an agent’s ‘excessively detailed’ account to avoid upsetting the first family — after Major bit agents on eight consecutive days,” the New York Post reported. “The records, released in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by Judicial Watch, show that attacks occurred both earlier and later than previously known.”

Last year, the White House said the Bidens’ rescue dog, Major, had been sent to a new home after a biting scandal. “Major, who made history in January as the first rescue dog to come live at the executive mansion, was sent to live with unidentified friends of the Biden family. He bit a Secret Service agent and a National Park Service employee during his time at the Executive Residence,” the Daily Mail reported at the time.

“White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged just one biting incident at a briefing on March 9, 2021, saying that one day earlier ‘the first family’s younger dog, Major, was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual,’” the Post said.

But records released to Judicial Watch show that was the eighth and final bite in as many days.  And one agent reportedly said: “NO I didn’t surprise the dog doing my job by being at [redacted] as the press secretary just said! Now I’m pissed.”

Judicial Watch has previously reported on other findings they found about the dog biting incidents.

“One email notes that ‘at the current rate an Agent or Officer has been bitten every day this week (3/1-3/8) causing damage to attire or bruising/punctures to the skin,’” Judicial Watch reported.

“The documents show that agents were advised to protect their ‘hands/fingers’ by placing their hands ‘in their pockets.’ Photos of the dog bite injuries were redacted [blacked out] by the agency,” the group reported.

But people other than Secret Service agents to the White House were also endangered.

“On March 5, 2021, a series of emails was sent about Major attacking a White House pass holder,” Judicial Watch noted. “The Presidential Protective Division reported, ‘For your awareness. WHMU [White House Medical Unit] responded to the South Portico a short time ago on a UDW [Uniformed Division White House] report of a pass holder with a dog bite. The pass holder is [redacted] of the Residence Staff. He is currently being treated in the Doctor’s office.’”

“We’re sure Major is a good dog but these records show he was involved in many more biting incidents than the Biden White House has publicly acknowledged,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton stated. “It is disturbing to see a White House cover-up of numerous injuries to Secret Service and White House personnel by the Bidens’ family pet.”
