A potential legal battle is underway in Florida’s second largest county as a school district announced implementing another mask mandate. During an interview on Thursday, State Rep. Daniel Perez (R) said it should be left up to parents to make health decisions for their children.

The day prior, the school board of Broward County implemented a policy which requires students and faculty to wear face coverings this fall. Concerned parents gathered outside the meeting, saying masks make it difficult for their children to breathe, learn and socialize.

Perez suggested a special session in Congress could block the county’s forced mask mandate.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he does not support forced mask mandates for students. “At the end of the day, the Governor trusts parents to weigh the risks and benefits and make the best choices for their own kids,” wrote the spokesperson.
