Sean Duffy’s son-in-law launches Congressional run in Wisconsin

Michael Alfonso, the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, announced Wednesday that he is running for Congress in Wisconsin’s 7th district.

Alfonso is the grandson of Cuban citizens who fled their home country for the United States at the end of the Cuban Revolution. In his announcement video, he says his parents moved to the U.S. in pursuit of the American Dream, but his generation is not inheriting the same promise of success amid the rising cost of living.

“Our district needs to bring in high-paying jobs so people can plant their roots, raise their families here, and build a future they’re proud of, because when young people can’t get ahead, they start listening to the lies of socialism,” Alfonso said.

He also addressed the older age of many in Congress, saying some people believe Congress should have “older people with more experience.” However, he argued that those are the same people who “created this mess.” His announcement video then shows pictures of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), 85, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), 74, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), 76, and former President Joe Biden, 82.

His wife and Duffy’s daughter, Evita Duffy-Alfonso, shared her husband’s announcement on X, adding that he’s running in the district where they grew up and met in middle school.

“I’ve seen his heart: faith, grit, and love for this country. He’s Christian. He’s America First. He’ll fight like hell for our home!” Duffy-Alfonso said.

Duffy also served in Congress from 2010 to 2019 in the same district his son-in-law is now vying for. He resigned in 2019 to care for his daughter, who has Down syndrome.

The Republican National Committee is circulating a memo, shared first with the Washington Examiner, encouraging state Republicans to tie Democrats to New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who is favored to win in many polls. A picture of Mamdani appears in Alfonso’s campaign announcement.
