Savannah Guthrie gives first interview since mother’s disappearance: ‘I wake up every night’
Today co-host Savannah Guthrie is giving her first interview since her mother vanished more than seven weeks ago, describing the “unbearable” anguish her family has endured as the search intensifies in Arizona.
In a tearful interview with Hoda Kotb on NBC’s Today, Guthrie reflected on the uncertainty surrounding her mother’s disappearance.
“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Guthrie said. “We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through.”
Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on Feb. 1. Authorities have not confirmed many details, but say the case is being investigated as a possible abduction.
“I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night,” Guthrie continued in the interview. “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now.”
The investigation, involving local, state, and federal agencies, has yielded few public details. The FBI has released doorbell camera images showing an armed, masked man outside Nancy Guthrie’s home the night she disappeared, but no arrests have been announced.
Earlier this week, the Guthrie family issued a renewed plea for help, urging the public to revisit anything that might provide a clue.
“We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case — please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations, or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance,” the family said in a statement shared on social media.
