Santos files for 2024 re-election amid scandals

Scandal-plagued New York Representative George Santos officially filed with federal regulators formally declaring his run for re-election.
On Tuesday, George Santos, a Republican from New York filed paperwork with Federal Election Commission to apply for reelection in 2024 as New York’s 3rd Representative.rd District congressional. Santos is confident that he can fulfill his current role and will be re-elected, despite multiple scandals and calls to him to resign.
In recent months, Santos was under heavy scrutiny after it emerged that he had lied about his education, his work history, and many other details of his personal life.
According to sources, the House Ethics Committee opened a formal investigation into Santos’ financial dealings. Federal and state investigators have said they are looking into work he allegedly orchestrated as a Ponzi scheme.
“[Santos failed] to properly disclose required information on statements filed with the House,” Michael Guest (R, Miss.), House Ethics Committee chairman and ranking member of the committee. “[Santos violated] federal conflict of interest laws in connection with his role at a firm providing fiduciary services.” “[Santos also] engaged in sexual misconduct towards an individual seeking employment in his congressional office.”
Also, reports have surfaced that Santos may have allegedly stolen thousands of dollars for lifesaving surgery to save the life of a veteran’s dog. NBC News recently reported that Santos was accused of being the mastermind behind a credit card skimming scheme. These allegations were denied by the New York Congressman.
Santos has admitted that he may have fabricated some of the details of his background, including his work experience and his education. Santos has denied any accusations of criminal wrongdoing in the media.
George Santos was elected to The House representing New York’s 3rd District in Novemberrd The congressional district includes parts of Long Island, Queens and other areas. In a 2022 election, Santos was supported by the Republican Party. This helped them win a Democrat seat in 2023. The narrow victory of Santos over Thomas Suozzi gave the GOP a narrow majority in Congress.
Santos has made it a point of acknowledging that he is the first LGBT Republican to be elected in federal office.
