General Michael Kurilla explained that the United States Central Command, CENTCOM has seen more. “unprofessional and unsafe” Behavior of Russian aircrafts in Syria since March 1st

“What we are seeing, is an increase recently in the unprofessional and unsafe behavior of the Russian Air Force in the region,” Kurilla stated.

Kurilla spoke out about ongoing harassment by the U.S. forces within the region at a Senate Committee on Armed Services meeting.

He continued to explain how Russian aircrafts have been more aggressive in recent years towards U.S. military bases. He stated that the Russian Air Force’s actions are not typical for an organized military force.

“They fly over our bases with ground attack aircraft with weapons on them in an attempt to try and be provocative. But really, it’s unsafe, unprofessional, not what we expect of a professional air force. They want to try and renegotiate the deconfliction protocols that they violate every day.” He elaborated.

Senator Deb Fischer (R. Neb) asked the general if this was normal Russian behavior.

“This is not new Russia behavior, is it, sir, especially in regard to the drone incident that we have recently seen?” She was curious.

“It’s not new, but we have seen a significant spike since about 1 March in Syria,” Kurilla responded.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia’s military behavior has been a concern for U.S. officials.

Tensions escalated when Russian planes harassed American aircrafts and caused one of their drones to crash in the Black Sea.

Officials from the United States reported on Thursday that Russian Ships were at the MQ-9 drone accident site in the Black Sea to recover the debris.
