Blinken: Russia shows ‘cracks’ post-Wagner rebellion.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken: “Cracks” in Russia Revealed by Wagner Group Revolt

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has highlighted the significance of the recent revolt by the private mercenary group, the Wagner Group, stating that it has exposed “cracks” in Russia that were previously unseen.

During an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Blinken acknowledged that the United States does not possess all the details regarding the rebellion against the Russian military. However, he described the situation as a “moving picture,” indicating that there is more to unfold.

“We don’t have full information obviously and it is too soon to tell exactly where this is going to go. And I suspect that this is a moving picture and we haven’t seen the last act yet. But we could say this. First of all, what we’ve seen is extraordinary. And I think you’ve seen cracks emerge that weren’t there before,”

Regarding negotiations that led to the end of the Wagner Group’s brief rebellion, Blinken stated that he is unaware of any military officials in Russia being removed from power. He refrained from speculating on whether this event marks the “beginning of the end” for Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, he did describe Russia’s actions in the war in Ukraine as a “strategic failure” on multiple fronts.
