Rubio Urges Federal Election Commission to Investigate Allegedly Fraudulent ActBlue Donations

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has urged the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to initiate an investigation following allegations by journalists that people listed as donating tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats did not actually donate nearly as much. ActBlue, a nonprofit that facilitates donations to Democratic candidates, has been implicated in these fraudulent activities.

Rubio wrote to FEC officials about the “disturbing reports” indicating that ActBlue was reporting “fraudulent donations” to the FEC. According to investigative reports, multiple individuals, including senior citizens, were duped into having their names and addresses used to donate thousands of dollars in political contributions, with most of these donations going to ActBlue.

Journalist James O’Keefe played a significant role in uncovering the fraudulent activities when he reported on his discussions with multiple people listed as having donated substantial funds to candidates, who said they did not donate nearly as much as they were said to have contributed.

As other reporters began to probe further, they found that the donations of more individuals did not match their statements.

An FEC spokesperson refused to comment on the allegations, and ActBlue has not responded to any requests for comment.
