Rubio Blasts Biden: ‘We Are Headed For Border Chaos’

On Thursday, Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio blasted the Biden administration after reports surfaced claiming that the United States was accepting illegal immigrant families and releasing them into the U.S. interior, charging, “This is going to create chaos on the border.”

Speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Rubio stated:

Seven days ago, when you arrived at the border of the United States with children, you were allowed to stay in the country on a promise to appear, or a notice to appear. I have tremendous compassion for the extraordinary challenges and the horrifying conditions in which people live in the Western Hemisphere, in Central America, and the like; there is nothing compassionate about this policy.

What this is doing; what’s happening right now, and I have seen it and I have talked to people — you can talk to government officials in these countries — is these evil traffickers, who take money from these people, who push them through the jungle, who abuse them, who sometimes kill them, and do horrifying things, are now out there marketing this. They’re going around telling people throughout the Western Hemisphere, “You can now get into the United States and come with children, because if you do, they’re going to give you a little piece of paper and they’re going to let you go on a Greyhound bus anywhere you want in the country and you never have to show up again.”

Rubio concluded, “This is going to create chaos on the border, and it is inhumane to lure people to this country with a policy that is encouraging these traffickers to do this to them.”

U.S. News and World Report noted on Thursday: “U.S. officials in Texas are releasing an increasing number of Central American migrant families from custody as local authorities in Mexico have baulked at taking them back and border patrol facilities risk becoming overcrowded. … U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed some migrants were being released into the United States to await immigration hearings, saying some holding facilities were at maximum safe capacity. A CBP source cited COVID-19 and a change in Mexican law among factors that ‘have forced us to adapt.’”

“The Mexican government has stopped taking back Central American families ‘expelled’ at the U.S. border under a Trump-era emergency health order related to the coronavirus. a shift that has prompted U.S. Customs and Border Protection to release more parents and children into the U.S. interior, according to five U.S. officials,” The Washington Post reported on Wednesday. “The change, which has not been publicly disclosed, raises concerns in U.S. border communities and at the Department of Homeland Security because the large-scale release of parents and children into the United States has triggered previous waves of unauthorized migration.”

The Post added, “The Biden administration directed CBP to stop expelling minors who arrive without a parent, allowing them to go to U.S. shelters instead, while launching a broader review of Trump’s deterrent policies and border controls, including the CDC order.”
