Rosie O’Donnell tells daughter: Girls can like boy things.

Rosie O’Donnell Shares Message of Acceptance with Daughter

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell recently shared a heartwarming story about a conversation she had with her daughter about gender identity. During an episode of actress Mayim Bialik’s podcast, “Bialik Breakdown,” O’Donnell revealed that her daughter had told her that her stuffed animals were “non-binary.” O’Donnell responded by telling her daughter that she too was a “tomboy” who loved “boy stuff” but still identified as a girl.

O’Donnell emphasized that it’s okay to be a girl and still enjoy traditionally “boyish” activities. She also made it clear that she never felt confused about her gender identity and always knew she was a girl. O’Donnell, who is a lesbian and a foster and adoptive mother, has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights throughout her career.

Critics of Gender Ideology Express Concerns

While O’Donnell’s message of acceptance is heartwarming, critics of gender ideology worry that girls who would have been considered “tomboys” in the past are now being pushed towards identifying as transgender. Some parents of trans-identifying children cite their child’s preference for activities typically associated with the opposite gender as evidence of their child’s gender identity. Critics argue that this can lead to unnecessary medical interventions, such as puberty blockers and surgeries, for children who may simply be exploring their gender expression.

While it’s important to support children in exploring their gender identity, it’s also important to approach the topic with caution and avoid rushing into medical interventions that may have long-term consequences.
