DeSantis urges Iger to let go of Disney lawsuit, claims he has ‘moved on’.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Challenges Disney to Drop Lawsuit
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has issued a bold challenge to Disney, urging the entertainment giant to drop its lawsuit against him and other Florida officials. In a preview of his upcoming appearance on CNBC’s Last Call, DeSantis confidently stated that Disney will ultimately lose the legal battle.
A Fresh Start
Despite the ongoing feud, DeSantis expressed his willingness to move forward with Disney in the state of Florida. However, he made it clear that the company will not regain its “extraordinary privileges.”
“We’ve basically moved on, they’re suing the state of Florida. They’re going to lose that lawsuit,” DeSantis confidently declared.
DeSantis also revealed that he would personally inform Disney’s CEO Bob Iger that he is “totally fine” with putting the recent conflict behind them. The dispute began when Disney criticized the Parental Rights in Education Act, a law signed by DeSantis last year.
A Call for Equality
DeSantis emphasized the importance of treating all businesses equally, urging Disney to drop the lawsuit and move forward. He highlighted Florida’s thriving economy, ranking number one among all 50 states according to CNBC, and its success in attracting new businesses and investments.
“Your competitors, Universal and SeaWorld, thrive here without the same special privileges you enjoy,” DeSantis pointed out. “Let’s level the playing field and treat everyone fairly.”
The Lawsuit and Allegations
In April, Disney filed a lawsuit against DeSantis, acting Secretary of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Meredith Ivey, and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board. The entertainment giant claims that the state officials have been using their power to retaliate against Disney for expressing unpopular political views.
DeSantis and the other defendants are now seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed.
