Rita Wilson responds to headlines about Tom Hanks ‘scolding’ man on red carpet.

Rita Wilson Responds to Cannes Red Carpet “Scolding” Headlines

Actress Rita Wilson has hit back at headlines claiming that she and her husband, Tom Hanks, were seen “scolding” a man on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Wilson posted a screenshot of a Daily Mail article reporting the incident on social media, saying that the truth didn’t “sell stories.”

Before Wilson responded to the report, headlines surfaced showing images of Hanks pointing and making terse looks at the man. In another photo, Wilson and Hanks are both gesturing in opposite directions, possibly appearing to get instructions about where to go.

Festival employee Vincent Chaplain, who has identified himself as the man on the red carpet with them, also responded to the reports, tweeting, “They just asked me if they should go back to the start of the mat with the rest of the film crew (I’m not security) wink.”

“Asteroid City” takes place in the 1950s and is centered around “the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer convention” that “is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events,” according to IMDb. The film has a star-studded cast that also includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Carell, Margot Robbie, Bryan Cranston, and Jeffrey Wright.

Wilson’s Response

Wilson captioned the screenshot of the article, “This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?’” She added, “But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. Go see Asteroid City!”
