Former NCAA Star Swimmer Slams Brittney Griner Over Transgender Athlete Comments

Brittney Griner, a WNBA star, recently claimed that it was a “crime” to prevent transgender athletes from competing against biological females in women’s sports. This statement did not sit well with former NCAA star swimmer Riley Gaines, who took to Twitter to express her disappointment.

Gaines tweeted, “Which NBA team would have @brittneygriner since apparently the overwhelming, obvious differences between men and women should simply be overlooked? Heartbreaking to see athletically successful women take this demeaning stance.” She added, “And if we’re going to talk about crimes, Brittney…”

Griner was arrested in Russia last year on drug charges, but during a recent press conference, she was asked about legislation being pushed across the U.S. that aims to protect biological females from having to compete against biological males. Griner responded, “I mean, that ranks high on the list of things that I’ll be fighting for and speaking up against, you know, everyone deserves the right to play.”
