Ricky Stenhouse Holds Off Nascar Champ Joey Logano Jr to Win Daytona 500

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won on Sunday the Daytona 500. NASCAR season 2023

Joey Logano finished second to Stenhouse on the final lap. The caution flag was raised because of a wreck involving Kyle Larson, several drivers and others. After the caution was raised, Stenhouse determined to lead the race and Logano came in second.

Stenhouse is the 42nd driver to win “The Great American Race.”

“They left me a note on the car that said they believe in me and to go get the job done tonight,” He told FOX Sports’ Jamie Little his story about his crew. “I made a few mistakes. We were able to battle back. This Kroger Cottonelle team worked really, really hard this offseason.”

The top five were completed by Alex Bowman, Chris Buescher, and Christopher Bell. A.J. Allmendinger, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain Riley Herbst and Riley Herbst round out the top 10.

Brad Keselowski won Stage 1 as he beat Ryan Preece. Chastain was narrowly ahead of Bowman to win Stage 2.

With less than 20 laps remaining, late cautions affected the field.

Preece and Michael McDowell, Martin Truex Jr. Martin Truex Jr. Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs, Jimmie Johnson were involved in a crash in Lap 182. Harrison Burton was in the lead when he restarted, but lost it quickly when Logano took a huge push. Allmendinger and Kyle Larson regained the lead.

Kyle Busch Suarez blowing tires might have helped Suarez win the race. Busch even noted that if it was 1998 – when Dale Earnhardt won the race under caution – he would’ve been declared the winner.

Busch and Austin Dillon would crash, while William Byron made the push in overtime. Dillon and Byron crashed, causing a few racers to be injured. Larson was then involved in a crash that resulted in his death.

Harvick announced his retirement at the end the season. He was in the front pack most of the race, until he was caught in a late accident. He was 11th.

Travis Pastrana finished 14th.

JTG Daugherty Racing is owned by Brad Daugherty and Stenhouse. Before Sunday’s win, Stenhouse failed to place in the top 10 of any Daytona 500 race since 2014.

His last win was in 2017. He placed 13th in NASCAR standings in that year.

Stenhouse currently holds a spot at the NASCAR Playoffs. This will be made possible by Stenhouse’s second win in this season.
