Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants the public to know how much something as trivial as a toilet seat will cost the government.
Speaking at a rally in Michigan on Sunday, Kennedy stated he wanted the United States budget on blockchain to make government spending transparent. A blockchain is a ledger of transactions used with cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum.
Kennedy’s reference to long-standing scandals that the government overpaid for toilet seats serves to show the true transparency that blockchain would offer, though the task of placing every government transaction on a given blockchain could prove monumental.
With the government planning to spend about $3.8 trillion this year, the independent candidate would have an extremely steep slope to climb if he ever gets to put his claim in motion.
Kennedy has long championed cryptocurrency. He said he would accept campaign contributions in bitcoin and held up to $250,000 in the cryptocurrency at one point last year.

Stand with Crypto, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group that “champions for clear, common-sense regulations for the crypto industry,” rates Kennedy an “A” grade, while former President Donald Trump has a “B” and President Joe Biden a “D.”
Kennedy recently polled at 13% in a five-way NBC poll between him, Biden, Trump, Cornel West, and Jill Stein. The poll was conducted before the rest of the Kennedy family endorsed Biden over Kennedy, though the independent candidate said he loves his family either way.
