Get ready for some big news! House Republicans are set to unveil their comprehensive border security legislation on Monday, after years of hard work and dedication. The Homeland Security Committee has been working tirelessly for the past two years, with the last three months spent meeting with federal law enforcement and non-governmental organizations during trips to the U.S.-Mexico border and hearings in Washington.

The Border Reinforcement Act of 2023 is set to complement the House Judiciary Committee’s recently passed Border Security and Enforcement Act, and will be combined into one package once the border security legislation is marked up and passed by the homeland security panel.

Republicans are wasting no time, with the homeland security proposal set to be marked up on Wednesday. The bill seeks to reinstate mandates for physical barriers, infrastructure, and technology on the 2,000-mile southern border, and would also require the Biden administration to reinstate more than 300 miles of additional wall that had been funded by Congress.

But that’s not all – the number of Border Patrol agents on payroll would also see a boost, with Republicans looking to fund the agency with up to 22,000 agents. CBP would also have to disclose monthly data about the number of noncitizens who attempted to enter the U.S. illegally by the seventh day of the following month.

Republicans are also looking at funding for nonprofit groups and religious organizations that work with immigrants who illegally crossed the border and were then released into the U.S. and initially helped by these groups.
