GOP Big Donor Ditches Trump, Praises DeSantis as a Leader.

Republican Mega-Donor Backs DeSantis Over Trump for 2024 Presidential Race

A Republican mega-donor has made a surprising announcement regarding the 2024 presidential race. Hal Lambert, who served on Trump’s inaugural committee in 2016, has decided to support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis instead of former President Donald Trump.

Lambert believes that DeSantis has a better chance of winning the 2024 race and has pledged to do everything he can to help him win. In an interview with The New York Post, Lambert said, “Ron is good at giving a message.”

Why DeSantis?

Lambert believes that DeSantis is a leader who knows how to govern and not just make headlines. He is impressed with DeSantis’ stance on issues such as border security, energy independence, and school choice. According to Lambert, DeSantis has a successful conservative record in Florida.

Lambert is the founder of Texas-based Point Bridge Capital, an investment firm that manages an exchange-traded fund named “MAGA ETF.” The MAGA ETF channels investments into companies that align with Republican political beliefs. The MAGA Index comprises 150 companies from the S&P 500 whose employees and political action committees (PACs) are supportive of Republican candidates.

Lambert decided to support DeSantis after dining with the governor and his wife Casey a few weeks ago. He believes that Florida’s first lady “will be a real asset.”

Why Not Trump?

Lambert was turned off by Trump’s remarks about the 2020 election during a CNN town hall earlier this month. He believes that Trump will have a difficult time winning the general election and that the election will be a referendum on Trump instead of President Joe Biden’s bad record.

Lambert acknowledged that it’s “going to be a battle” for DeSantis to defeat Trump. He believes that DeSantis needs to beat Trump without alienating Trump’s voters. According to Lambert, Trump’s poll numbers will drop once DeSantis officially enters the 2024 race.

Survey Results

A survey by Harvard CAPS-Harris that queried 2,004 registered voters from May 17 to May 18 showed that Trump defeated Biden 47 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup. When Biden faced off against DeSantis, the two were tied with 42 percent of support each.

DeSantis has not announced his candidacy, but is expected to make his decision known soon.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months. Apart from Trump, several other major Republican figures are expected to announce their candidacy for the 2024 presidential race.
