EXCLUSIVE — Republican Derrick Anderson launched his first television advertisement in his bid to flip Virginia‘s 7th Congressional District, emphasizing a contrast to policies of House Democrats and President Joe Biden.

Anderson, a Green Beret veteran, is the first of the six Republicans in the primary for the district to launch a TV ad buy. He is vying to flip the seat currently held by Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), who is not seeking reelection to her seat and instead running for governor in 2025.

The advertisement pitches Anderson’s focus on fighting against crime and increasing border security, among other matters. It is being backed by a significant TV buy across the entire northern Virginia district, according to the campaign.

“I’m running to secure the border, make our communities safer, make it more affordable for regular people to live and have a family, and reverse the destructive policies of Biden and the radical left. The people in my home district are hurting badly and it’s time for a forceful advocate for them in Congress,” Anderson said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner.

The Republican hopeful has received endorsements from several key House GOP figures, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA). He has also received the backing of Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

The district is one of the GOP’s top targets in November as it hopes to expand its slim majority in the House of Representatives. It has been rated by the Cook Political Report as having a Democrat +1 partisan voting index.
