A 2022 election analysis showed that out of the 36 seats decided by a margin of 5 percentage points or less in each district, 18 represent at least 15% Latinos. These districts have significant Latino populations are relatively evenly divided with 10 of the seats held by Democrats, and eight by Republicans.

The report found that there was a drop in turnout in certain Latino areas in Arizona, California, New York and Texas. However, the results were positive in California.

“Of the 36 competitive congressional districts decided by five points or less in 2022, five came from California and had highly concentrated Latino populations — and four of those five now have Republican incumbents,” According to the report. “In short, California Democrats have a major challenge on their hands to address their shortcomings with Latino voters in these competitive races.”

In the districts that had a large Latino population, the four Republicans who won were Reps. David Valadao and John Duarte, Ken Calvert, Michelle Steel, and Ken Calvert.

Duarte’s and Valadao’s victories were in areas where at least 60% of the population are Latino.

According to the report, the Republican Party saw significant gains in Latino communities across the country, with Florida showing a 17.5 percent swing to the right between 2020 and 2022. According to the report, the Democratic Party was responsible for a lack in investment in the Latino community. This is a clear example of what happens when a political party fails to invest in Latino voters.

“Florida is a warning of what happens when there is complete abdication by Democrats to invest in Latino voters,” According to the report.
