Trump won’t attend Milwaukee debate, but his campaign representatives will be present.
Former President Donald Trump’s Absence Won’t Dampen the Excitement at the Republican National Committee Primary Debate
While former President Donald Trump has decided not to participate in the first Republican National Committee primary debate, his presence will still be felt. Several of his presidential campaign surrogates will be in Milwaukee, ready to stir things up in the spin room and keep the focus on Trump.
Trump’s Surrogates Ready to Make Waves
Leading the charge will be Donald Trump Jr. and his fiance Kimberly Guilfoyle, who will attend the debate as surrogates for his father. The younger Trump expressed his excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to see all of our friends in Milwaukee who want to Make America Great Again!!!” They will also be making media appearances on behalf of the former president.
Joining them will be other prominent Trump supporters, including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). These three members of Congress have been vocal in their support for Trump and are expected to rally behind him during the debate.
Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, a staunch Trump loyalist, will also be present. She has been urging Trump’s rivals to drop out of the race and unite behind him, but her calls have gone unanswered.
Additionally, three of Trump’s top aides, Chris LaCivita, Jason Miller, and Steven Cheung, will be in attendance. Cheung recently criticized Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for his disloyalty to Trump, highlighting the tensions within the party.
Trump’s Decision and the Race for the GOP Nomination
Trump confirmed on his social media platform Truth Social that he would not be participating in the debate. He cited his issues with the RNC’s loyalty pledge as the reason for his absence. Despite not being physically present, Trump remains the frontrunner in the presidential GOP primary, leading all rivals by a significant margin.
Instead of attending the debate, Trump plans to release a sit-down interview with ousted Fox News host Tucker Carlson, further snubbing both the RNC and the network that he has criticized in recent weeks.
With Trump’s absence, his rivals will have an opportunity to shine and make a lasting impression during the debate. They will undoubtedly seek a breakout moment to gain momentum and potentially overtake Trump in the race for the GOP nomination.
Regardless of Trump’s decision, the Republican National Committee primary debate promises to be an eventful and pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential race.
