Report: Muslim Brotherhood, US-Designated Terror Organization, Celebrates Abdul El-Sayed Primary Win Through Its Media Outlet
Abdul El-Sayed experienced a surge of endorsements following his victory in the Michigan Democratic senatorial primary. Notably, he received praise from Ikhwan Online, a media outlet linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is considered a terrorist association by the U.S. and several other countries. This endorsement has raised concerns about El-Sayed’s connections to organizations associated with the Brotherhood, especially given his campaign’s ties through his father-in-law to groups like the islamic Society of North America and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which have links to the Brotherhood. critics, including Republican figures like Senator Ted Cruz, interpret these connections as evidence of problematic and potentially hostile associations, suggesting that El-sayed’s rise indicates deeper institutional ties to organizations hostile to U.S. interests. The situation underscores ongoing debates about political affiliations and the influence of organizations linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in U.S. politics.
It seems like Abdul El-Sayed is racking up a ton of endorsements after his win in the Michigan Democratic senatorial primary this week. Some of them, however, he might not be touting too loudly on his campaign page.
This includes a fawning write-up in Ikhwan Online, an official media outlet of the Muslim Brotherhood, according to a report from Michigan-based online conservative outlet The Midwesterner.
The move comes after numerous groups raised questions about ties between El-Sayed’s campaign and Brotherhood-linked organizations. The Muslim Brotherhood, which originated in Egypt, is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States and a number of other countries.
On Wednesday, after El-Sayed’s narrow victory over U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens was made official, Ikhwan Online could scarcely maintain its jubilance (while giving a shoutout to “squad” member Rashida Tlaib for her own primary victory Tuesday). From a computer translation of the original Arabic text:
The American doctor of Egyptian origin, Abdel Rahman “Abdoul” Al-Sayed, on Wednesday, snatched the Democratic Party’s candidacy card to compete for the Michigan state seat in the US Senate midterm elections, in a result described as a new setback for pro-occupation lobby groups, after surpassing Rep. Hailey Stevens, supported by the American Zionist Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
American media confirmed that Al-Sayed won the Democratic Party nomination after a fierce competition with Stevens, which received wide support from pro-occupation lobby groups, while US MP of Palestinian origin, Rashida Tlaib, achieved a new victory in the primaries of Michigan’s 12th District, according to the Associated Press.
The competition took place between Al-Sayed, a former public health official known for his progressive positions in support of Palestinian rights, and Stevens, a member of the House of Representatives for four consecutive sessions, which is one of the most prominent pro-occupation figures within the Democratic Party.
I don’t remember Haley Stevens being a prominent anything, much less a “prominent pro-occupation” voice, but I’m guessing anyone to the right of Rashida Tlaib qualifies thusly.
However, you have to give them credit for subtlety: “Abdul Rahman al-Sayyid conquers the Zionists and runs for the Senate,” the headline read.
And Republicans, naturally, got some mileage out of it:

It’s unclear how much of a blessing from Muslim Brotherhood leadership this had — if any — but it highlights an already problematic and uncomfortable closeness between El-Sayed’s campaign and Muslim Brotherhood-linked organizations.
In July, the Washington Free Beacon reported that El-Sayed’s father-in-law, Tayeb Jukaku, who was one of his campaign’s biggest donors, was also a leader in the Islamic Society of North America, an unindicted co-conspirator in a 2007 terrorist financing case.
In court documents, prosecutors labeled ISNA one of several entities “who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood,” the Free Beacon reported.
Jukaku also served as the president of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, another Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization that was named as a co-conspirator in the 2007 case.
The should be an albatross around El-Sayed’s neck in the upcoming general election, but it should also serve as a warning sign, Republicans say.
At a Senate hearing on Wednesday, after El-Sayed’s victory, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said that the Democrats’ campaign apparatus “is now openly embracing terrorist organizations waging war on America.”
“Behind El-Sayed’s political rise sits a much older and more entrenched institutional network,” he added.
And if alcohol wasn’t haram, it’s clear from the article at Ikhwan Online that there would be champagne corks popping at Muslim Brotherhood headquarters all over the world.
