Repatriation of two Americans killed in Mexico ‘underway,’ State Department says

The price emphasized that United States Mexico authorities have been in collaboration with the US to investigate the kidnappings last week of four Americans. Top Republicans are urging the Biden Administration to be tougher against Mexico’s drug cartels.

“We’re continuing to work very closely with our Mexican counterparts. On this, we’ve asked Mexican officials to fulfill the family’s wishes for the remains to be repatriated as expeditiously as possible. As of earlier today, that process was still underway,” Price made these comments during Wednesday’s press conference.

The four Americans held captive by the Mexican government while on their way from Brownsville (Texas) to Mexico were undergoing a medical procedure. One was found unharmed, the other wounded. Two of them were taken hostage on Tuesday. The White House stated that it was in communication with the relatives of the kidnapped or killed victims.

Price refused to confirm whether or not the Department had received any additional information regarding the reasons the Americans were captured, citing ongoing investigations. The U.S. warns that travelers should not travel to Matamoros to see the area where the four Americans were taken by the cartel.
