Rep. Ted Budd (R-N.C.) has joined the North Carolina Senate primary race. He officially announced his bid for the GOP nomination Wednesday.

Budd is looking to take up the seat of retiring Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) The Republican is among a crowded field of candidates vying for the open seat, which likely includes Lara Trump.

President Trump has praised Budd as a warrior and a gun rights advocate.

“I’m a small business man who is fed up with the liberals attacks on our faith, our families, our way of life,” Budd stated. “I ran for Congress alongside Donald Trump to take our country back.”

The open Senate seat is one of the most competitive and watched races of 2022.
