Rep. Roger Williams Claims Support for Israel Sign Stolen from Office
Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) expressed his outrage on Thursday after a sign declaring his support for Israel mysteriously disappeared from his Washington office. The sign, featuring the Israeli flag and the words “I stand with Israel,” had been proudly displayed outside his office in the Capitol. Williams took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a photo of the sign earlier that day.
“Last night, someone came to my DC office and took down my Stand With Israel sign. Let me be clear, I will not be deterred by this vandalism, we must support Israel in its fight against evil and hate,” Rogers wrote on X Thursday, alongside a photo of himself with two new signs.
Williams wasted no time in reporting the incident to the Capitol Police, who have launched an investigation into the matter. The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed their involvement to the Washington Examiner. The sign had been put up by Williams in response to the recent escalation of violence between Hamas and Israel, with Hamas launching thousands of rockets and sending fighters into Israel during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah.
“If you want to come by tonight, I’ll be here,” Rogers said in a video posted to X on Thursday.
Interestingly, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) continues to proudly display a Palestinian flag outside her House office, despite the invasion of Israel by Hamas. Unlike Williams’ sign, Tlaib’s flag has not been stolen or vandalized. In response to these events, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) has introduced an appropriation amendment to ensure that funds will not be used to display any foreign flags.
