Rep. Darrell Issa Requests Meeting with Gold Star Families
Last week, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) sent a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to host a formal meeting with Gold Star families who lost loved ones in the tragic suicide bombing attack at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport in 2021. The California Congressman expressed his disappointment that President Biden had not yet responded to his request.

Issa recently organized a forum for these families, providing them with a platform to share their experiences and raise questions about the Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The forum focused on the devastating terror attack at HKIA’s Abbey Gate, which claimed the lives of 13 American service members and over 150 Afghans.
During the forum, many family members expressed their criticism towards the Biden administration officials responsible for overseeing the troop withdrawal. Some even directed their anger towards President Biden himself, describing him as “heartless” and accusing him of making their conversations about himself and his late son Beau Biden.

Cheryl Rex, who lost her son Lance CPL Dylane Merola in the attack, shared her encounter with President Biden, revealing that he immediately shifted the conversation to talk about his own loss. She expressed her disbelief and heartbreak, emphasizing that Biden had not reached out to her or mentioned her son’s name since their meeting.
