Communications Director Resigns Amid Congressman’s Legal Troubles

Naysa Woomer, communications director for Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), has resigned following an audio recording in which she appeared to express support for Santos’ removal from office.

In a resignation letter shared with Scripps News, Woomer stated, “With respect for my colleagues, the people of New York, and most importantly, myself, I am honored to tender my resignation.”

Woomer also appeared to criticize Santos in her letter, stating, “Unfortunately, you never took one point of professional advice given.”

Santos’ office confirmed Woomer’s resignation in an emailed statement to NTD News, stating, “Naysa served this office and the constituents of New York’s Third Congressional District for the past five months. We appreciate and thank her for her diligent service and wish her nothing but the best.”

Audio Recording Reveals Woomer’s Opinion of Santos

On Wednesday, an audio recording was released by the O’Keefe Media Group (OMG) purporting to show Woomer expressing her opinion of Santos to an undercover reporter. Woomer stated, “13 counts. Money laundering, fraud. Yeah. He’s not a good person. Sorry.”

It is unclear if the release of this recording played a role in Woomer’s resignation.

Congressman’s Legal Troubles

Santos was recently indicted on 13 counts alleging he defrauded donors, misused campaign funds, lied to Congress on his campaign finance disclosures, and took unemployment benefits for which he did not qualify.

Woomer had also spoken out about another Santos staffer, Vish Burra, who allegedly made intimidating comments toward a reporter. Woomer stated, “Threats of violence of any kind will not be condoned. The tweets have been deleted and disciplinary action will be taken.”
