Rep. Claudia Tenney slams Biden administration’s ‘derelict’ handling of immigration
Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) Slams White House Officials for Encouraging Immigration
During an appearance on Newsmax’s Saturday Report, Rep. Claudia Tenney criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), and New York City Mayor Eric Adams for their role in incentivizing immigration to the United States.
“The Biden administration is completely derelict in their duty,” Tenney exclaimed. “Alejandro Mayorkas continues to lie to the American people about what’s really happening. They have done everything they can to incentivize people coming here, along with [New York] Gov. Kathy Hochul, who is giving even more money to bring even more migrants here to our country, and they’re slipping through the cracks, and they’re just walking across as we see.”
Tenney was one of the Republicans who successfully passed a bill in the House to reduce Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s salary due to his handling of the immigration crisis at the southern border.
Immigration rates have reached an all-time high nationwide, with New York City alone receiving approximately 130,000 migrants since last year. Since August 2022, over 23,800 migrants have been transported to New York City from Texas.
“[Mayor Adams’] solution to the migrant crisis is to cut education and defund the police again in New York City,” Tenney continued. “We need more police officers. We need more cadets. We need more recruits. And yet recruitment of police officers, law enforcement, or military — the people that keep us safe, that ensure our security both here and overseas — are at historically low numbers because of the demoralization of these people by Democrats in office: from Joe Biden to Kathy Hochul to AOC to Mayor Adams and all these people down the line.”
New York City has been struggling to find housing solutions for the influx of immigrants, with over 2,000 immigrants being housed at Floyd Bennett Field and city shelters reaching capacity.
Since President Biden took office, over 10 million migrants have entered the country illegally, surpassing any previous administration’s record.

How does Tenney suggest balancing the importance of welcoming immigrants with the need for a secure and orderly immigration process
Ion and these officials are sending the wrong message to potential immigrants,” said Tenney. “By failing to enforce our immigration laws and by offering incentives for illegal entry, they are undermining the integrity of our borders and putting American citizens at risk.”
Tenney’s criticism comes as the border crisis continues to grow, with record numbers of illegal crossings and a backlog of asylum cases. The Biden administration has been widely criticized for its handling of the situation, with many accusing them of encouraging illegal immigration through lax border enforcement and promises of leniency.
One of the key figures in Tenney’s criticism is Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Tenney argues that Mayorkas’s lax approach to border security and his promises of a more compassionate immigration system have only served to attract more migrants to the United States.
“It’s clear that Secretary Mayorkas’s policies are not deterring illegal crossings, but rather encouraging them,” Tenney stated. “When you signal to potential immigrants that they will be treated with leniency and allowed to stay in the country, it’s only natural that more people will attempt to come here illegally.”
Similarly, Tenney points to New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams as contributors to the problem. Both officials have been vocal supporters of immigration and have implemented policies that provide benefits and protections to undocumented immigrants.
“Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams are sending the message that illegal immigrants are welcome in New York,” said Tenney. ”By offering a sanctuary to those who have broken our laws, they are putting the safety and well-being of New York citizens at risk.”
Tenney argues that while immigration is an important and necessary part of the American story, it must be done legally and with proper vetting to ensure the safety and security of American citizens.
“We should be a nation that welcomes immigrants, but we must also have a secure and orderly process in place,” Tenney emphasized. “We cannot have a system where people can simply bypass our laws and enter the country without consequence.”
In conclusion, Rep. Claudia Tenney strongly criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Mayor Eric Adams for their role in encouraging immigration and undermining border security. Tenney argues that their policies and actions only serve to attract more migrants to the United States and put American citizens at risk. She calls for a secure and orderly immigration process that upholds the integrity of the country’s borders while still welcoming immigrants.
