Jan. 6 Defendant Dies After Recent Arrest
A Tragic Loss: Man Arrested for Capitol Entry Dies
In a heartbreaking turn of events, it has been reported that a man who was arrested for entering the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has passed away. Nejourde Meacham, also known as Jord, tragically died on Aug. 28.
The cause of his death remains undisclosed, leaving family members, prosecutors, and the public in shock.

Mr. Meacham, a 22-year-old resident of Utah, was facing charges for his involvement in the Capitol incident. However, his lawyer has not provided any comment on the matter.
Surveillance footage captured Mr. Meacham entering the Capitol while carrying a flag in support of then-President Donald Trump. He spent a brief nine minutes inside before being escorted out by law enforcement officers.
It’s important to note that Mr. Meacham was not accused of any violent acts during his time inside the Capitol. Instead, he faced misdemeanors related to disorderly conduct and disrupting the proceedings of Congress.
Tragically, Mr. Meacham’s life was cut short before his scheduled arraignment on Sept. 11. Prosecutors have since filed to end the prosecution due to his passing.
In an obituary, family members fondly remembered Mr. Meacham as a hardworking individual who loved outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. They also highlighted his passion for history, cooking, and music.
Survived by his parents and nine siblings, Mr. Meacham’s funeral took place on Sept. 2, with his mother expressing gratitude for the support they received.
Other Tragic Losses
Unfortunately, Mr. Meacham is not the only Jan. 6 defendant who has passed away. Matthew Perna, Mark Aungst, and Christopher Stanton Georgia also lost their lives before their respective sentencings.
Matthew Perna, a 37-year-old from Pennsylvania, tragically took his own life in 2022. His family attributed his death to the prolonged legal battle and the resulting anxiety.
Similarly, Mark Aungst, a 47-year-old from Pennsylvania, died by suicide in 2022. Local law enforcement officers discovered his body during a welfare check.
Christopher Stanton Georgia, a 53-year-old from Georgia, also died by suicide shortly after his arrest for entering the Capitol.
It’s important to note that none of these individuals were accused of committing violent crimes.
