Raiders Sign Derek Carr to Multi-Year Extension

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Raiders’ Derek Carr is sticking around Las Vegas for a little longer.

The quarterback agreed to a three-year contract extension with the “Silver and Black” on Tuesday worth $121.5 million.

The deal, which was first reported by the NFL’s Ian Rapaport and Mike Garafolo, includes a no-trade clause and will keep him in Sin City through the 2025 season.

Carr met with the media on Wednesday with his family looking on, emphasizing something he said last year during the season, that Las Vegas is where he wants to play.

“I’ve only wanted to be a Raider and I told my agent that I’m either going to be a Raider or I’m going to be playing golf,” Carr said. “I don’t want to play anywhere else. That’s how much this place means to me.”

That feeling was reciprocated by the team who came to terms on the extension. Carr still has one year left on his previous deal so the extension makes the next four years worth $141.3 million or just over $35 million per season. The way the deal was structured allows the Raiders to have some flexibility to sign other players. That was a priority for Carr who said winning is as important as anything else.

“This was an opportunity for me to prove to the team, to the organization, to the fans that the way we’re going to structure this is so we can keep everybody together really have continuity, really have something to build on,” Carr said.

Carr’s no trade clause provides some security, but because Carr said he wants to finish what he started with the Raiders.

“We’re in the middle of what I dreamed of doing,” Carr said. “I wanted to be someone that when all was said and done my name would be at the top of a lot of lists on some stat sheets and then I wanted to hold trophies. Well, we haven’t done some of those things yet. I wanted to leave my mark on this organization. To look back now and say I’ve got four more years for that opportunity is exciting for me.”

The Raiders are beginning the off season workout program under new head coach Josh McDaniels.
