Psaki Refuses To Guarantee That Taxpayer Money In Stimulus Bill Won’t Go Toward Abortions

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday refused to guarantee pro-life Americans that their money would not go toward funding abortions in the stimulus package that the Biden administration is trying to pass.

Owen Jensen, a reporter for EWTN, brought up how pro-life organizations are “very concerned” that “millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars will go toward the abortion industry in violation of the Hyde Amendment.”

“We know where President Biden stands on Hyde Amendment,” Jensen said. “But that being said, can this administration right now guarantee if the American rescue plan is passed that no taxpayer dollars will go to the abortion industry?”

“Which component of the American rescue plan are you referring to?” Psaki asked.

“A $50 million funding increase for the title 10 program,” Jensen responded. “$750 million for global health activities and billions in funding for community health centers without applying the Hyde Amendment.”

“Well, the president’s view on the Hyde Amendment is well known as you have stated in your question,” Psaki responded. “He also believes that community health centers are a key part of addressing the pandemic of ensuring that people and communities have access to vaccines, have access to treatment and information about making sure they’re healthy and their loved ones are healthy. So that remains a priority to the president. He’s shared his view on the Hyde Amendment. I don’t think I have anything for you.”

“If I can follow up on that, can you guarantee Americans who don’t want their tax dollars, pro-life Americans who don’t want their tax dollars funding abortion, can the administration guarantee those taxpayer dollars won’t go to the abortion industry?” Jensen pressed.

“Well, I think, Owen, as I’ve just noted, three quarters of the public supports the components of the package, wants to see the pandemic get under control, wants to see people put back to work, vaccines in arms,” she responded. “So I think that answers your question. Okay, we’re gonna move on.”

“Biden described himself as ‘personally pro-life’ while nonetheless believing that Roe v. Wade was correctly decided and that women have a constitutional right to abortion,” The Daily Wire reported on Biden in September 2019. “For decades, Biden supported the Hyde Amendment — which prohibits federal funding of abortion — but flipped his position in 2019 to appease the hard-left Democratic activists who now comprise the base of the party.”

“Along with Obama, Biden helped oversee the 2010 passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare,” the report added. “Obamacare radically reshaped the individual market for health insurance, infamously included a tax/mandate to purchase health insurance, and generally dramatically expanded the role of government in the regulation and provision of health care. There is likely no Obama/Biden agenda item that conservatives have more consistently opposed than Obamacare. Biden has never indicated any willingness to structurally reform fiscally ruinous health care-related entitlement programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. As part of his 2020 presidential nomination platform, Biden has claimed opposition to ‘Medicare for All.’”
