The FBI has captured Proud Boy Christopher Worrell, who vanished just days before his sentencing for the events of January 6th.
According to the FBI, agents surrounded and entered Worrell’s home in Collier County, where they found the 52-year-old suspect unconscious.
“They discovered the 52-year-old unconscious and immediately provided medical attention,” the release said. “Worrell was transferred to an area hospital where he remains at this time.”
The self-identified Proud Boy disappeared in early August, just before his scheduled sentencing on federal charges related to the January 6th event.
Worrell was wanted for violating parole conditions while awaiting sentencing.
A federal arrest warrant was issued for Worrell on August 15th in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
The FBI’s Tampa and Washington field offices commended the Collier County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the arrest.
“I can confirm Christopher Worrell is in custody,” Andrea Aprea, with the FBI Tampa office, told WGCU. “No further details are available at this time.”
Authorities discovered night-vision goggles, $4,000 in cash, and survivalist gear in Worrell’s residence.
Worrell was found guilty of assaulting officers with pepper spray gel during the event, after a bench trial in May. Prosecutors believe he lied on the witness stand, claiming he was spraying other protestors.
Worrell’s attorney stated that his client brought the spray gel and tactical vest for defensive purposes due to previous violent encounters between Proud Boys and counter-protesters.
There is no update on Worrell’s health at this time.
