Alec Baldwin may face new charges in Rust shooting case.
Special Prosecutors Seek to Recharge Alec Baldwin in Fatal Rust Shooting
Exciting developments have emerged in the case of the 2021 fatal Rust shooting, as special prosecutors are now aiming to re-charge Alec Baldwin. Recent revelations have shed new light on the incident, prompting prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis to bring forth additional evidence to a grand jury within the next two months.
“New Evidence Points to Criminal Culpability”
“We have uncovered additional facts that we firmly believe demonstrate Mr. Baldwin’s criminal culpability in the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,” revealed Morrissey and Lewis in an email. “To ensure justice is served, we propose that a panel of New Mexico citizens be given the opportunity to determine whether Mr. Baldwin should face a criminal trial.”
Initially, Baldwin faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but these charges were dropped in April due to the emergence of new evidence that complicated the investigation, necessitating further scrutiny and analysis by Morrissey and Lewis.
In August, Morrissey hinted at the possibility of refiling charges, citing a new report that examined the revolver used on the film set and the markings it left on a cartridge. The report concluded that the gun was fired as a result of “manually retracting the hammer to its fully rearward and cocked position,” followed by “pulling or depressing the trigger.”
