Prosecutor allegedly informed six witnesses of inability to charge Hunter Biden.
U.S. Attorney Wanted to Bring Charges Against Hunter Biden, Whistleblower Claims
In a stunning revelation, IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified that U.S. Attorney David Weiss had expressed his desire to bring charges against Hunter Biden in Washington, D.C. However, Weiss was allegedly barred from doing so, leading him to share this information with six witnesses.
Shapley, who testified before the House Oversight Committee, disclosed that Weiss had revealed his intention to charge Hunter Biden in two federal districts. However, Attorney General Merrick Garland denied these claims. In response, Shapley publicly named the witnesses who had heard Weiss’s statements.
“He surprised us by telling us, ‘I’m not the deciding official on whether charges are filed,'” Shapley recounted during his testimony. “He then shocked us with the earth-shattering news that the Biden-appointed D.C. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves would not allow him to charge in his district.”
According to Shapley, Weiss’s inability to file charges in D.C. effectively prevented him from pursuing crimes allegedly committed by Hunter Biden in 2014 and 2015. These crimes included foreign income from Burisma Holdings and a scheme to evade income taxes through a partnership with a convicted felon. Shapley argued that excluding these years concealed crucial facts and sanitized the most significant criminal conduct.
During the same meeting in October 2022, Weiss also revealed that his request for special counsel authority had been denied. Instead, he was instructed to follow the regular process, which would once again involve a Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney.
Attorney General Merrick Garland swiftly denied Shapley’s allegations, asserting that Weiss had the authority to continue his investigation and make prosecution decisions as he saw fit. However, Shapley’s legal team promptly released the names of four of the six witnesses who had corroborated his account.
“Those six witnesses include Baltimore FBI Special Agent in Charge Tom Sobocinski and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ryeshia Holley, IRS Assistant Special Agent in Charge Gary Shapley and Special Agent in Charge Darrell Waldon,” the statement from Shapley’s legal team stated. “Mr. Shapley would have no insight into why Mr. Weiss made these statements at the October 7, 2022 meeting if they were false.”
Statement from IRS Agent Gary Shapley’s legal team: “In an October 7, 2022, meeting at the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Attorney David Weiss told six witnesses he did not have authority to charge in other districts and had thus requested special counsel status.
